Here is what makes no sense. Jimmy qualified for Extended School Year last year. It is a month of services, like school and therapies for him, but they do fun things like go fishing and to the water park. But they told us the second to last day of his school year last spring he would be going to this program.
So this year I wanted to avoid the panic we had, so I asked James to ask Jimmy's Early Childhood teacher what was going on this year. He did, and she told James she had to look into it. And then she started avoiding James at pickup. So I went back and dug out the IEP. They marked NO for ESY. What the heck? So I asked James to corner the teacher because at Jimmy's IEP meeting last winter, they were talking about ESY like he was going to get it.
Early Childhood teacher tells James that they did not mark ESY for Jimmy because (wait for it) they think he will regress in the program. Yes, he will regress since he will be doing the same thing as last year. Funny he is doing the SAME THING AS LAST YEAR in Early Childhood and HE ISN'T REGRESSING. I think its the economy since our district has to put up the money to send the kids to the program.
I can't wait until we are away from this school district. Can give a payraise to the superintendent and fix bleachers and gym doors but don't want to help the kids who need it.
