I think we'll rename her Houdini

This is Hammie. I think we told you about her. So last night, we were all sitting on mom and dad's bed (James and my bed), I was reading blogs, James was playing DS and the kiddos were watching SpongeBob. All of a sudden, James sees Hammie. In our room. Like this is the most normal thing for her to do. Picture about where you see the red paper is where we noticed her. Unfortunately, before we could convince her that her cage was a better place, she went down the return. By choice. See that hole behind the door? This would be the hole behind the door. An open return that we do not think much about that needs a cover on it. After Hammie went down the return, Bri began screaming. So I ran into Bri's room to get some tubing off the cage, thinking we could get her up through the tubing. James brought up a grabber arm he uses at work and thought Hammie could climb up it. Bri kept saying "Hammie is dead" and I told her you want to think negative thoughts, then yes, she is dead. If you want to think happy, positive thoughts, we will get her out of there. But you're carrying on is not helping anyone. She mostly stopped crying at that point.
Then Hammie dropped down the vent and we couldn't hear her scratching anymore.
She ended up behind the return in the living room. (we have a funky split level house. ) We could hear her scratching from behind the return. James moved an end table and a display case and got her out of there. We put her in her ball and got her back in her cage. The plastic top had gotten unlocked and she squeezed out between the wire and plastic and had herself an adventure. We relocked her cage top and prayed she wouldn't get out again.
Meanwhile, I need to redye my hair because of the gray hairs I acquired from Hammie's adventure.

That reminds me, I need to check with the first grade teacher to see if they ever caught the runaway class pet. He's a hamster as well and will come grab the treats the ytry to use to lure him back to his cage at night. last I knew, they were going to try a haveaheart cage, but I keep forgetting to ask!

Is she one of those "robo" hamsters? My husband can't stop talking about them.

I am sure that was very traumatic, for everyone, including Hammie! Found you on Blissfully Domestic.
